Ladies, Men, Gentlefolk of Kentucky:
You are formally invited to the second installment of the Speak Social Reading Series, featuring performances by Bianca Spriggs, Kirby Gann and Justin Lewis. This event will start at 7:30 PM, open mic sign-ups at 7:00 PM. Come read, come drink, come listen to fine poetry and revel in good company!
This event will be held at Java Brewing Company on Bardstown Road. After party to follow.
Bianca Spriggs is the recipient of an Al Smith Individual Artist Fellowship in Poetry and a Pushcart Prize Nominee. She is the author of Kaffir Lily (Wind Publications) and How Swallowtails Become Dragons (Accents Publishing), and her work may also be found in the anthologies, New Growth: Recent Kentucky Writings, America! What’s My Name? She holds degrees from Transylvania University and the University of Wisconsin, and is currently a doctoral student at the University of Kentucky.
Kirby Gann is the author of the novels Ghosting (Ig Publishing), The Barbarian Parade (Hill Street Press), and Our Napoleon in Rags (Ig). He is co-editor of the anthology A Fine Excess: Contemporary Literature at Play, finalist for the ForeWord Magazine Book of the Year Award. Gann is Managing Editor at Sarabande Books and teaches in the brief-residency MFA in Writing Program at Spalding University. His work has appeared most recently in The Lumberyard and The Oxford American.
Justin Lewis has begun to make an impact at an early age. He is considered a “golden treasure” and “cultural mover and shaker” of the Kentucky music scene, and has shared the stage with veteran songwriters such as Lucinda Williams, John Hiatt, and Lyle Lovett. Justin recently played the South By Southwest Music Festival in Austin, TX, and is currently in the studio working on his sophomore album with fellow Kentucky-based producer and songwriter, Ben Sollee.
